Position: Production Supervisor Education: Post Secondary

Description:
General Accountability: The Production Supervisor is responsible for supervising the day-to-day production operations at the plant facility including proactively conducting root cause analysis and correcting operating issues and employee activities. The position is responsible for ensuring a safe operation, key targets and results are achieved, and effective management of resources, as well as identifying and leading continuous improvement initiatives, and scheduling related services to help ensure production objectives are met. Critical Success Factors: Provide leadership in driving strong health and safety performance through due diligence, training, audits, communication and education, and root cause analysis of incidents. Where necessary, take corrective action to address unsafe situations and employee behaviours, uphold safety rules and procedures, and communicate with appropriate resources (human resources, health and safety committee) to address any hazardous conditions or unsafe employee conduct. Provide leadership and supervision to staff by providing work direction, performance feedback, and recommendations for training and development. Promote a positive labour-management relationship, including efforts to continuously improve the team culture and to establish high levels of employee involvement. Support operation of the production departments/teams to ensure that quantitative and qualitative measures included in the operating plan are met, including those related to standard costs, cost reductions, productivity, health and safety, GMP, sanitation, customer satisfaction, production scheduling, staffing and capital/technological improvement plans. Promote a focus on excellence in all production activities including those required to support optimal quality, yield and cost containment, and minimal re-work or downgrades. Complete annual performance reviews for hourly employees to provide feedback and establish goals for those employees not meeting established targets for health & safety, team contribution and job performance. Ensure GMP and S.O.P's are adhered to at all times, and that all products consistently meet specifications. When assigned, ensure timely and thorough sanitation of all equipment and facilities to allow for efficient and on-time production start-up and delivery of products to customers. Ensure compliance with the Company’s corporate and legal obligations under the Collective Agreement, as well as various statutes and regulations such as the Employment Standards Act, Workers Compensation Act, and the Occupational Health & Safety Act. Participate in the development and implementation of operational and capital budgets, safety compliance, training and production plans, as well as monitor results against plan.
Requirements:
Key Attributes Of The Ideal Candidate: College diploma or technology based University degree such as B.Sc. Minimum three (3) years experience in food production supervision Experienced as a supervisor and/or providing leadership to production teams in dairy or related food or pharmaceutical industry. HACCP exposure preferred. Certified and/or experience in the supervisory responsibilities under WSIB, OSHA, and First Aid an asset Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills Strong problem solving skills Strong decision making skills to identify and solve problems in a timely and effective manner Capacity for learning and mastering technology and mechanical challenges in food manufacturing Strong team facilitation/leadership skills and commitment to employee development and continuous improvement methodologies Proficient with standard office computer technology such as Lotus Notes and Microsoft Office products

Description:
• translate production requirements into daily work schedule and direct staff in various departments in the execution of the work. • Meet production requirements as per schedule. • Lead and implement process improvement initiatives to create cost and process efficiencies • Update the Oracle (ERP) system transactions. • Complete and audit production documents, and maintain necessary usage, cleaning and calibration logs. • Audit and release manufacturing process stages for further processing. • Provide a leadership style to the team that encourages pride in work, team participation and personal development • Evaluate the individual performance and contribution of all direct reports on an on-going basis. Partner with employees to develop plans of development where required. • Perform annual performance evaluations providing sufficient detail and examples for each employee under review. • Proactively monitors and manages employee time and attendance. Follows policies in the management of staff. • Responsible for the resolution of all employee issues, involving Management and HR where required. Addresses all issues in a tactful and timely manner. • Ensure staff is trained and adhere to Health & Safety procedures, GMP and SOP regulations. • Monitor the operations for compliance (GMP/SOP), efficiency and process improvement and take corrective action where required. • Provide input to the annual budget process. • Liaise directly with suppliers on technical issues and procurement of operational supplies. • Follow appropriate Health & Safety procedures, including WHMIS, PPE, and OH&S Act. • Liaise with other internal departments (Site Engineering, Corporate Engineering, Technical Services, Quality Assurance) to solve production related problems. • Other duties as required.
Requirements:
• University Degree in Science, Pharmacy or other scientific discipline (Canadian institution or evaluated as Canadian equivalent). • Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years experience in Production or Quality Assurance. • Willingness and flexibility to work any shifts. • Good computer knowledge and familiarity with Oracle. • Self-starter with the ability to provide solid leadership. • Strong mathematical and problem solving skills. • Strong interpersonal skills, professional attitude and the ability to interact with various individuals. • Communication and leadership skills will be formally assessed.
